AvaSpec-ULS2048CL-EVO – UV/VIS/NIR Spectrometer

Precise spectral measurements from 200 to 1,100 nm

The AvaSpec-ULS2048CL-EVO is a high-performance fiber-optic spectrometer for the precise characterization of light sources in the UV, visible and near-infrared spectral range from 200 to 1,100 nm.

With its 2,048-pixel CMOS detector, fast measurement times and an optical design optimized for low stray light, the system is particularly suitable for demanding measurement applications in research, development and quality assurance.

At BF Engineering, we use the spectrometer for the spectral measurement and validation of light sources and solar simulation systems. This enables detailed spectrum analysis, comparison of different light source technologies and targeted system optimization according to specific testing requirements.

Professional spectral analysis

The AvaSpec-ULS2048CL-EVO enables fast and precise spectral measurements across a wavelength range from 200 to 1,100 nm.

The combination of a 2,048-pixel CMOS detector, fast electronics and an optical design optimized for minimal stray light makes the spectrometer particularly suitable for the characterization of high-performance artificial light sources.

Especially in solar simulation and irradiation systems, measuring the total irradiance alone is not sufficient. It is also essential to determine how the radiant power is distributed across individual wavelengths and spectral ranges.

The spectrometer therefore enables detailed analysis of UV, VIS and NIR radiation and provides an important basis for the development, optimization and validation of our irradiation systems.

The actual spectral resolution and other optical properties depend on the selected spectrometer configuration.

Versatile spectral measurement for professional lighting systems

The AvaSpec-ULS2048CL-EVO is suitable for a wide range of applications in optical measurement technology and light source development.

Typical applications include:

  • Solar simulators
  • Spectral irradiance measurements
  • UV measurement technology
  • LED characterization
  • HMI light sources
  • Plasma light sources
  • Xenon and broadband light sources
  • Comparison of artificial light sources with reference spectra
  • Research & development
  • Quality assurance
  • Validation of lighting and irradiation systems

At BF Engineering, the focus is particularly on the spectral characterization of high-performance light sources and solar simulation systems.

Spectral validation of artificial sunlight

The quality of a solar simulator is not determined by its irradiance alone.

A key parameter is the spectral distribution of the generated radiation.

With the AvaSpec-ULS2048CL-EVO, the UV, visible and near-infrared components of a light source can be measured in detail between 200 and 1,100 nm.

The measured spectral data can then be divided into defined wavelength ranges and compared with reference spectra or corresponding testing requirements.

The spectrometer therefore supports:

  • Development of new light sources
  • Spectral optimization
  • Comparison of different light source technologies
  • System validation
  • Quality assurance
  • Commissioning of solar simulation systems

Spectral measurement technology therefore plays an essential role in the development of reproducible and high-performance solar simulation systems.

2,048-pixel CMOS detector

At the heart of the ULS2048CL-EVO is a CMOS linear array detector with 2,048 pixels.

Light coupled into the spectrometer via an optical fiber is spectrally separated inside the instrument and projected onto the detector. This allows the intensity distribution of a light source to be determined in detail across the respective wavelength range.

Combined with a 16-bit A/D converter, short integration times and fast data transfer, the system enables both high-resolution laboratory measurements and fast measurement sequences.

With a measurement speed of up to 0.38 ms per scan, changes in the spectrum under different operating conditions can also be investigated.

Professional spectral measurement in our own laboratory

At BF Engineering, we use professional spectral measurement technology for the development, characterization and validation of high-performance lighting and irradiation systems.

We analyze different light source technologies such as:

HMI · LED · UV · Plasma

Spectral measurement enables us to analyze the actual radiation distribution of a light source in detail and objectively compare different technologies.

The resulting measurement data is incorporated directly into the development, optimization and validation of our solar simulation and irradiation systems.

This gives us in-house measurement capabilities covering the entire process from initial prototypes and product development through to final system validation.
