Major Project in India: Solar Simulation for Complete Trains
Solar simulation systems for complete trains represent one of the most specialized applications in industrial testing technology. Only a limited number of projects of this scale are implemented worldwide.
Following two successfully completed railway projects in Austria and China over the past 15 years, BF Engineering is now bringing its solar simulation technology to another major project: in India.
The new system is designed for a full-scale testing chamber in which complete trains can be tested under controlled environmental conditions.
A total of 114 high-performance lamps, each rated at 4,000 W, will be used. Together, they provide almost 0.5 MW of installed irradiation power.
By combining climate testing with solar simulation, complete rail vehicles can be evaluated under reproducible environmental conditions. In particular, the system makes it possible to investigate the effects of intense solar radiation and the resulting thermal loads on the entire vehicle.
The project places demanding requirements on the dimensioning, integration and control of the solar simulation system and further expands BF Engineering’s experience in large-scale irradiation solutions for the railway industry.
With its third railway project, BF Engineering continues to expand its international activities in large-scale solar simulation.
