4000W HMI Bulb

Maximum HMI Power for Solar Simulation and Large Test Benches

The OSRAM HMI 4000 W/SE XS is a high-performance metal halide short-arc lamp for demanding solar simulation, irradiation and testing systems. With a rated power of 4,000 W, a luminous flux of 380,000 lm and a color temperature of approx. 6,000 K, it provides exceptionally high light and irradiation output with a daylight-like characteristic.

OSRAM explicitly specifies the HMI 4000 W/SE XS with a broad spectrum suitable for Solar Simulation. This makes the light source particularly suitable for professional solar simulation, automotive testing, material and ageing testing, and environmental testing.

The high power output offers particular advantages for large test benches and greater distances between the light source and the test specimen. This makes the HMI 4000 W particularly well suited for integration into wind tunnels, vehicle test benches and large-area solar simulation systems, where the luminaires cannot be positioned directly next to the test specimen due to the design of the test setup.

BF Engineering integrates the HMI 4000 W into individually designed lighting systems and, on request, supplies the complete system including optics, filtering, ballast and ignition technology, control system and software.

With 380,000 lm, the HMI 4000 W provides significantly greater performance reserves than lower HMI power classes and is therefore particularly suitable for demanding industrial solar simulation systems.

The OSRAM HMI 4000 W/SE XS is explicitly specified by OSRAM for applications in the field of Solar Simulation. Its broad spectrum and a color temperature of around 6,000 K provide an excellent basis for professional solar simulation systems.

In combination with a coordinated reflector and filter glass system, BF Engineering can design the optical characteristics according to the specific application. Parameters such as spectrum, irradiance, homogeneity, test area and working distance can be taken into account.

The HMI 4000 W is therefore particularly suitable for:

Solar simulation · Solar Simulation · Automotive Testing · Wind Tunnels · Vehicle Test Benches · Material Testing · Material Ageing · Environmental Testing · Large-Area Irradiation · Research & Development

Test systems for applications according to DIN 75220 or MIL-STD-810H Method 505.7 can also be designed. Actual compliance with the respective standard is determined by the complete optical system and its spectral measurement.

High Power for Large Test Setups

A key advantage of 4,000 W HMI technology is its high available power reserve.

Particularly with large test benches, a considerable distance between the light source and the test specimen often has to be maintained. As the working distance increases, the irradiance available at the test specimen decreases. A powerful light source and optimized optical design are therefore essential.

The HMI 4000 W is consequently particularly suitable for applications such as wind tunnels, vehicle test benches, large climate chambers or solar simulation systems, where greater working distances are required.

By combining the HMI light source with a reflector and filter technology, BF Engineering can precisely design the system for the required working distance, test area and irradiance.

On request, BF Engineering supplies not only the lamp but a fully coordinated 4,000 W HMI lighting system.

Depending on the application, the system can consist of a ballast, ignition unit, lamp housing, reflector, lamp socket, OSRAM HMI 4000 W/SE XS and filter glass. All components are technically and optically coordinated with each other.

Optionally, we can also develop the appropriate PLC control system, Siemens LOGO! control, HMI operation or software solution and implement interfaces for integration into existing test benches, wind tunnels, climate chambers and automation systems.

This means BF Engineering provides everything from a single source – from the individual OSRAM HMI 4000 W to a fully operational high-performance solar simulation system.

Send us your test area, required working distance and required irradiance – we will configure the appropriate 4,000 W HMI system for your application.
