Compact High-Performance HMI Light Source for Solar Simulation

The OSRAM HMI 1200 W/DXS is a high-performance metal halide short-arc lamp with a daylight-like light characteristic. With a rated power of 1,200 W, a color temperature of approx. 6,000 K and a color rendering index of Ra > 90, it is particularly suitable for applications requiring high light output and a broad, sunlight-like spectrum.

OSRAM explicitly lists Solar Simulation as an application area for the HMI series. The broad emission spectrum makes the HMI 1200 W an interesting light source for solar simulation, material testing, ageing tests, as well as industrial irradiation and test systems.

With a nominal luminous flux of 110,000 lm, the HMI 1200 W combines high power density with comparatively compact dimensions. It is therefore particularly suitable for smaller irradiation areas, laboratory test benches and customized solar simulation systems.

The combination of high light output, compact design and daylight-like color temperature enables use in high-performance industrial lighting and irradiation systems.

The OSRAM HMI 1200 W features a broad emission spectrum and is explicitly specified by the manufacturer for solar simulation applications.

In combination with a suitable reflector and filter system, the light source can be used for customized solar simulation and irradiation systems. Depending on the optical design of the overall system, parameters such as irradiance, spectrum, homogeneity and irradiated area can be influenced.
